The North Country National Scenic Trail is America's longest National Scenic rail crossing 4,600 miles in eight states. It links communities from North Dakota to Vermont, and hosts millions of people each year who enjoy the outdoors.
In partnership with the Trust for Public Land, the OH! movement grant will help protect a critical segment of the trail along the Black River in northern Wisconsin. The acquisition of the Black River parcel offers 30+ miles of the North Country Trail giving hikers the ability to hike uninterpreted from the Pattison State Park into the big woods found in Douglas County. The trail showcases the state's highest waterfall which is currently not linked to the road walk found in Pattison State Park. This project will link together the conservation areas and establish a permanent location for the North Country Trail by acquiring over 300-acres of land and add an additional 30+ miles through the Douglas County Forest.
